Description
Spear's Fishleigh is a house, formerly a farmhouse, dating from around the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building features rendered cob and rubble walls and has a gable-ended slate roof. There are two brick stacks, one at the left-hand end and one axial. The layout consists of a three-room and through-passage plan, with the lower end located to the right. The hall is heated by the axial stack that backs onto the passage. In the 20th century, the roof was raised, and stairs were added at the rear of the passage.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with two windows, featuring 20th-century one, two, and three-light casements. To the right of the centre, there is a 20th-century plank door set in a recessed section with pillars at the front. A small fire light is located in the wall to the left of the door.
Inside, the hall includes an open fireplace with a chamfered and stopped wooden lintel, as well as chamfered axial beams with bead-moulded joists. The roof timbers were replaced when the eaves were raised.
