Description

Pound Farmhouse is a derelict farmhouse dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone, with some parts rendered. The gable-ended roof has collapsed, and there are brick chimneys at the central axial stack and the left-hand end. The layout consists of three rooms: the hall on the left features an axial stack that backs onto a central unheated room. Originally, there was a through passage between the central room and the unheated right-hand room, which has no windows. There is a 20th-century outshut at the front of the right-hand end.

The exterior has two storeys and an asymmetrical two-window front. The stone mullion windows have headmoulds on both the ground and first floors; the left side features three-light windows with rebated chamfers, while the centre has two-light windows with cavetto chamfers. There are doorways to the right and left of the centre. The rear elevation includes some later windows and a doorway to the left of centre.

Inside, there is a plank and muntin screen between the centre and right-hand rooms, which is on the left side of the former through passage. A plank screen in the hall chamber has fallen into the hall. A timber-framed partition beside the axial stack has a cambered head to the doorway. The hall fireplace features a large cambered chamfered timber lintel, and there are remains of another timber lintel on the hall floor. Although the floors and roof have mostly collapsed, the blade of a jointed cruck truss is lying outside behind the house, with only a few rafters, a large side purlin, and the ridge purlin remaining.
