SX 48 NE LEW TRENCHARD

4/86 Galford Cottage - II

House. Circa late C17. Stone rubble, colourwashed and rendered to the front, thatched roof gabled at ends. Large stone stack at right gable end. 2 room and through passage plan with rear left stair projection. Rear outshut under slate lean to roof probably added in the C19. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 2-window front with central stone porch with conical thatched roof. 2 ground floor windows C20 casements, thatch eaves eyebrowed over 2 first floor 2-light C19 casements, 4 panes per light. Small square stair light in stair projection, 1 rear window is a raking dormer, rising lightly above eavesline. Interior Through passage plan intact. Left hand room has large fireplace with cloam oven. Chamfered fireplace beam with 1 straight cut stop may be re-sited. Exposed ceiling beams throughout ground floor. C19 stair in projection. Large principals visible in first floor rooms, no access to roof space at time of survey, 1985.
