Description

Farmhouse. It likely began in the 17th century and was remodelled in the 18th century, with alterations in the 19th century. The farmhouse is rendered and colourwashed with a slate roof gabled at each end. It has a stone stack to the left gable and a brick shaft on a stone stack to the right gable, as well as a brick shaft on the ridge. Originally a single-depth plan with three rooms, it now includes a rear outshut and an addition at the right end under a lean-to roof, likely dating to the 19th century. The original plan may have been a three-room layout with a through passage. Around the early 18th century, it was remodelled into a three-storey house, although the third-floor windows were blocked and the roof was probably lowered in the 19th century. The front facade is asymmetrical, with three windows and a centrally positioned stone gabled porch, whose gable is slate-hung. A ground-floor window to the right of the porch, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, is a three-light casement with six panes per light. Other windows are from the early 18th century and have two lights with high transoms and casements in the right-hand light below the transom. These windows have 18 panes per light, and one window has been partly reglazed. Three blocked windows high under the eaves retain their sills. Inside, the ground-floor room on the right has a large fireplace with moulded granite jambs and a replaced softwood lintel, as well as a clom oven. Exposed ceiling beams are also present. A slate basin with a slate rim and slate-lined bowl, rediscovered during 20th-century renovations, is set into the wall opposite the fireplace, with a plugged drain below it which may have drained directly into or below the former through passage. The middle ground floor room has one exposed axial beam.
