Description
The Linhay, located approximately 20 metres east of the Tithe Barn in Buckland Monachorum, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It features stone rubble walls on the sides and rear, along with square stone rubble piers. The roof is made of scantle slate and has a gable end. The building has a long rectangular plan and was originally likely an open-fronted cattle shelter on the ground floor, with an open-fronted hay tallet above. It is two storeys high and has a seven-bay front, with the fourth bay being wider than the others, possibly intended for a cart entrance, and a closed eighth bay to the right. Timber posts rise from the stone rubble piers on the ground floor to support the roof. The two left-hand bays have been partially filled in with rubble. Inside, there are plain cross beams on the ground floor.
