Description

This building is a linhay, which is partly converted to a cattle shed, located at the north-west corner of Sanders. It likely dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The structure features granite rubble walls topped with a gable-ended corrugated iron roof. It consists of two compartments, with the left-hand compartment serving as a loose box. Originally, there was a half-tallet above, but it is now a single storey.

The right-hand section is open-fronted at the first floor level, supported by a single timber upright located to the right of the centre. There is a wide doorway on the ground floor to the right, which has a monolithic granite jamb to the left. The left-hand section projects forward and has a narrow doorway to the right, which likely has a reduced size, and features a timber lintel.

Internally, the two sections are separated by a stone wall that reaches up to the first floor height. Both compartments contain mangers, with the right-hand section having them positioned at the rear along with the remains of tethering posts in front. This linhay is part of an important group of farm buildings and early houses situated in a small moorland settlement on the edge of Dartmoor.
