Description
This is a barn located directly to the north of Higher Lettaford, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It features granite rubble walls with larger quoins and a gable-ended corrugated iron roof. The barn has a central threshing floor and is aligned down a slope, with a shippon beneath the lower end. There are outshuts at the front and lower gable end. The structure is single storey at the higher (left) end and two storeys at the lower end, creating an asymmetrical front. The central tall double doorway is flanked by projecting side walls with a lean-to roof. To the left, there is an outshut extending to the gable end, while to the right, there is a doorway leading to the shippon on the lower level, which features a granite lintel. Above this doorway to the right, there is a ventilation slit, with a similar blocked slit to its left. The rear facade has a central double doorway with two ventilation slits to its left and a slit opening at the top of the lower gable end. This barn is part of an important group of farm buildings and early houses in a small moorland settlement on the edge of Dartmoor.
