Description
This barn, located immediately to the north of Sanders, features some fabric from the 16th century but was likely rebuilt in the 18th century. The structure has mainly granite rubble walls, except for the left gable end, which extends around the corner to the front and is made of granite ashlar with chamfered edges on the quoins. The roof is thatched and half hipped. The barn has a rectangular single cell plan and is a single storey. The front is asymmetrical, with a tall double doorway positioned to the left of center. On the left gable end, there is a central ventilation slit about halfway up the wall, accompanied by small square openings above to the left and right and below to the right. Inside, there is one roof truss, probably from the 18th century, featuring straight principals with the collar lapped and slightly set into the principals. This barn is part of an important group of farm buildings and early houses in a small moorland settlement on the edge of Dartmoor.
