SAMPFORD COURTENAY SAMPFORD COURTENAY SS to SW 11/192 Langford GV II Cottage, semi-detached may originally have been part of a larger house. Mid C17 altered and probably subdivided in C19 or early C20. Rendered cob and rubble walls. Thatch roof gabled to left end hipped to right. Brick stack at right gable end. Plan: 1-room plan with rear C19 outshot but originally likely to have formed one house with property adjoining to the left (which was much rebuilt in C19). Fireplace at right gable end. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2 window front of circa early C20 1 and 3-light small-paned casements. C19 plank door to left under doorhood on brackets. Interior: chamfered cross-beam with jewel stops. Open fireplace probably a C19 rebuild with high plain wooden lintel and brick sides. The feet of insubstantial straight softwood principal rafters are visible on the 1st floor.
