Description
This barn, located approximately 20 metres south-east of Venton Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid 19th century. It features rubble walls topped with a gable-ended grouted slate roof. The ground floor contains a row of shippons, while the threshing barn is situated above. A granary and cart shed were added to the left-hand end, likely in the late 19th century. The barn is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front. The main section includes five regularly spaced doorways on the ground floor, each with stone arches and granite keystones. At the centre of the first floor, there is a tall double doorway with a similar arch above. The left-hand section, which was added later, has a wide opening on the ground floor with a brick arch, and a door above that is accessed by stone steps on the left side, leading to a platform with a pentice slate roof above.
