Description

Westbridge Cottages comprise a group of cottages dated 1850, built as part of the Duke of Bedford’s housing scheme for local miners. The cottages are arranged in ten rows set at right angles to Plymouth Road, with each row containing four, five, six, or eight dwellings. They are constructed of stone rubble, some of which has been colour-washed, with hipped slate roofs and half-dormer gables. Each property has a casement window, some of which have been altered. Gabled weather porches are present, and the end cottages have porches on their end elevations. Brick chimneystacks, some of which are pointed, are a feature of the design.
