Description
Fitzford Cottages, dated 1862 and bearing a commemorative plaque between numbers 27 and 28, were built as part of the Duke of Bedford’s housing scheme for local miners. The cottages comprise two rows, each containing three blocks of six dwellings. They are constructed of stone rubble, with some areas colour-washed and others roughcast. The roofs are covered in gabled slate, with brick chimney stacks. Each house has a single casement window; some of these windows have been altered. Each house has a gabled weather porch, with the end houses also featuring porches on their side elevations.
