Description

The Church of Our Lady and St Mary Magdalene, formerly known as Fitsford Church, is a Roman Catholic church designed by Henry Clutton in 1865 and gifted by the Duke of Bedford. This large building is constructed in the Neo-Transitional Style using Hurdwick stone and features slate roofs. It has a nave with a lower chancel, a clerestorey, transepts, and a nearly isolated south-west tower topped with a spire and crockets. Below the tower is a porch with an iron gate featuring intersecting circles. The interior is plain, with the nave supported by five round-headed arches and a stone circular lectern adorned with a pattern of intersecting circles. The church occupies an important hillside position.
