Description
The Statue of Sir Francis Drake was erected in 1883 at the expense of the Ninth Duke of Bedford. It features a standing bronze figure created by J E Boehm, depicting Drake with a sword, poignard, and globe. The statue is mounted on a square granite plinth that includes bronze reliefs illustrating four scenes from the life of Sir Francis Drake, who was an Admiral and Navigator from 1542 to 1596. This statue is the original depiction of Drake, while the one located on Plymouth Hoe is a replica.
