Description

Bounsell's House and Cottage is a pair of houses that were originally one building, dating from the early to mid 19th century. The structure features rendered stone walls and a gable-ended slate roof, with brick stacks at each gable end of the front range. The original layout consisted of a single-depth, two-room front range with equal-sized rooms and a central hall, while a service wing at the left-hand end has been converted into a separate cottage.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. The first floor has original 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 16-pane sashes. At the centre, there is an original flat doorhood with a moulded cornice, which has been filled in below with glazed panels in the 20th century to create a porch. The eaves cornice is simple and rests on projecting joist ends. The wing at the left-hand end, now the Cottage, features three windows: two 19th-century partly leaded two-light casements, one on the first floor and one below that is transomed. There is also a late 19th-century or early 20th-century four-pane sash on the ground floor to the right, and a two-light 20th-century casement to the left on the first floor, below which is a 20th-century panelled and glazed door.

The interior has not been inspected, but original joinery such as the staircase, cupboards, and panelled doors may still be present.
