Description

Magpie Cottages are a pair of cottages likely dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, situated in Petrockstowe. The walls are rendered cob, and the roof is thatched, hipped to the left and gabled to the right end. A projecting stack of rendered rubble is at the right gable, and a brick axial stack is also present.

The left-hand cottage has a two-room plan with its axial stack between the rooms, and an entrance to the left-hand cottage. The right-hand cottage features a single-room plan with a staircase and a small pantry to the left.

The front façade is asymmetrical, with a four-window arrangement featuring early 20th-century two-light casement windows. A plank door is located to the left of centre on the left-hand cottage, and a central plank door is on the right-hand cottage.

The interior of the right-hand cottage includes a chamfered axial beam. The interior of the left-hand cottage was inaccessible at the time of survey.
