Description
East Totleigh Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, constructed with plastered cob and rubble walls and featuring a gable-ended slate roof. It has three brick stacks: one axial, one at the right gable end, and one at the rear outshut. The original plan was a three-room layout with a through passage, with the lower end located to the right. The hall stack backs onto the passage, while the inner room is heated by the gable end stack. In the 20th century, partitions were removed on the lower side of the passage and between the hall and inner room. A rear outshut was added in the 19th century, which includes a staircase and a wash-house.
The exterior is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical front with four windows, showcasing early 19th century 16-pane hornless sashes. There is a 20th-century timber and glazed porch to the right of centre, with a part-glazed door behind it. The outshut extends the full length of the rear wall. Inside, the hall fireplace has a high chamfered wooden lintel with straight-cut stops.
