Description
The stable block located about 40 meters south of Tetcott Manor dates from around 1700. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a gabled corrugated iron roof, which was previously slated. The building has a rectangular plan with a rear lean-to and stands two storeys high. The front is symmetrical with four windows and includes a platband. There is a central entrance with a moulded doorframe set beneath a segmental brick arch. On either side of the doorway, there are two-light cross mullion-transom windows, also under segmental brick arches, with glazing that is likely from the 19th century, consisting of two panes above the transoms and four panes below. The loft entrance is located under a segmental brick arch in the right gable end. Inside, there are loose boxes arranged behind a colonnade of timber Tuscan columns topped with an entablature. The stable block occupies a prominent position between the parish church and the current Tetcott House and may have originally been part of the brick buildings associated with a house at Tetcott from around 1700, which no longer exists. It is an unusually complete example of early stables, featuring an attractive area of pitched stone cobbles in front.
