Description
Nethercott Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins in the 17th century, featuring a 19th-century addition and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings, topped with a corrugated iron roof over thatch, and has gabled ends, one axial stack, and one stack at the right end. The 19th-century wing is made of stone rubble with brick dressings and has a slate roof. The original layout is unclear but may have consisted of a three-room and passage plan with a two-storey porch, a hall stack backing onto the passage, a two-storey gabled bay for the hall, and a heated inner room. The lower end has been truncated, and its ground floor is used for storage. The current entrance is located in the left return of the two-storey hall bay. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical four-window front with two short gabled projections. A sloping asbestos canopy between the projections creates a porch for the front door, which is in the left return of the right-hand projection. Most windows are late 19th-century or early 20th-century two-, three-, and four-light casements with glazing bars, while the first-floor window on the right is an earlier 19th-century two-light casement with twelve panes per light. The interior was thoroughly modernized in the late 20th century, featuring 20th-century grates, and most roof trusses were replaced during the 20th century, along with 19th-century joinery.
