Description

Kennicott Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1856 for the Tetcott Estate. It is constructed from stone rubble, rendered above the plinth, and features a slate hipped roof with brick chimneys. The building has a double depth plan, with the main rooms located on either side of an entrance hall that contains stairs at the rear, along with rear service rooms. It stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay front. Steps lead up to a central front door, which is topped by a rectangular fanlight with diamond glazing and is sheltered by a flat porch canopy supported by moulded timber brackets. The windows, dating from 1856, are sash windows with glazing bars, each featuring a projecting keystone below a drip ledge supported by short timber brackets.

Inside, the farmhouse retains a very complete interior with intact joinery, including a staircase with bobbin-turned balusters and a newel post. The ground floor room on the right has a black marble chimney piece flanked by fitted china cupboards with glazed doors that display a pattern of diamond panes with wooden glazing bars. The ground floor room on the left has a 20th-century grate but is also flanked by china cupboards from 1856. This farmhouse is noted as one of the best examples from the Tetcott Estate, with a largely unaltered interior, and it forms a group with two ranges of farm buildings to the southwest.
