Description
WINKLEIGH VINE STREET (south side) SS 6207 - 6307 Winkleigh 12/191 The Old Malt House and adjoining Cottage to left GV II Row of 2 cottages. Circa mid to later C17 with later C17 or C18 and C19 additions. Rendered cob walls. Thatch roof hipped to right end gabled to left. Projecting rendered rubble stack at left gable-end, brick stack at right end. Plan: originally may have been 3 cottages but right-hand cottage has 2-room plan with integral garage at left end converted from another room and a wing behind its right-hand end which was a later C17 or C18 addition. Cottage to its left is 1-room plan heated by gable-end stack with C19 converted outbuilding behind. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2:3 window front. The left-hand cottage has late C19 or early C20 casement, 2-light on the 1st floor, 3-light below with C20 panelled and part-glazed door to the right. The Old Malt House has one original 3- light wooden mullion window on the 1st floor to left above C20 double garage doors and otherwise mid C20 2 and 3-light casements with C20 part-glazed door to right of centre. Wing extends behind right-hand end. Interior: of The Old Malt House exhibited no original features but some may have been concealed and the roof structure might be of interest.
