Description
Northfield Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, with 20th-century additions. It has cob walls covered in plaster, and a thatched roof that is gabled on the left side and hipped on the right. A plastered rubble stack is at the left gable-end, with a brick shaft. The original plan comprised two rooms, with a contemporary outbuilding at the right-hand end and a 20th-century outshut added to the front. The front facade is asymmetrical, with a late 19th or early 20th-century two-light casement window with small panes on the ground floor to the left. A part-glazed porch, adjoining a brick outshut, is to its right. An outbuilding extends from the right end of the house, with a slate and corrugated iron roof. The rear elevation features an original three-light wooden mullion window with true-mitred glazing to the right of the ground floor, and a similar window to the outbuilding. The interior was inaccessible at the time of survey, but likely contains features of interest.
