Description
Mentmore Lodge is a cottage dating from the early 18th century, with 20th-century additions. It features rendered cob and rubble walls and a thatched roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. There is a brick stack at the gable end. The layout consists of a two-room plan, with a larger heated room on the right and a small dairy on the left, with stairs located behind. An earlier 20th-century lean-to has been added to the right end, along with a late 20th-century outshut at the rear.
The cottage is two storeys high and has a regular two-window front. The first floor has early 20th-century two-light casements, while the ground floor features a mix of late 20th-century single and two-light casements. To the left of the center is a 19th-century plank door, which is sheltered by a late 19th or early 20th-century open-fronted stone porch. There is also a slate-roofed 20th-century lean-to against the right-hand end, with a small porch in front of it.
Inside, there is an open fireplace with a roughly chamfered wooden lintel and a cloam oven to the left. The ceiling beams have been replaced, and the feet of rough straight principal rafters are visible on the first floor.
