Description

The Church of St Peter is a parish church located in Petersmarland. Some fabric from the 15th century survives in the tower, but the church was mainly rebuilt in 1868. It features stone rubble walls with granite quoins on the tower and has a gable-ended slate roof. The layout includes a nave, north and south aisles, and a south porch built in 1865, while the west tower dates back to the 15th century but appears to have been partially rebuilt.

The exterior showcases a three-stage battlemented tower with obelisk finials. There are two likely 19th-century buttresses extending up to the second stage of the west wall. The belfry has two-light trefoiled openings, and the west wall features a 19th-century three-light window with intersecting tracery. A 15th-century granite west doorway has roll and hollow moulding. The north aisle includes two Decorated style windows with three and four lights, along with a single trefoiled light at the west end. There is a lean-to vestry at the angle between the aisle and chancel, and the east window is a three-light Decorated style window, with a similar two-light window on the south side of the chancel. The south aisle has an intersecting tracery window at its east end, with the others being of the Decorated style. The south porch features a steeply pitched roof and a four-centered stone arch doorway.

Inside, there is a re-used granite south doorway with a Tudor arch, roll and hollow moulding, and ball stops. The church has three bay arcades supported by slender columns with small capitals, and each arch has a deep hoodmould. The interior also includes a modern square font made of freestone, tiled floors, and a pulpit and choir stalls made from simple carved woodwork.
