Description

Rectory Farm is a house that was formerly a rectory, built in the mid-19th century. It features rendered stone walls and a hipped slate roof with a modillion eaves cornice, with a gabled wing. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the main range containing the principal rooms and a service wing that projects from the left end and is set back. The main range includes a narrow entrance hall at the center, with rooms on either side and stairs located behind the left-hand room.

The house is two storeys tall, with an asymmetrical two-window front. The right side is blank, with a projection for a chimney stack that is cut off at the eaves. The first floor has original 9-pane sash windows, while the left side features a 20-pane sash window below with marginal panes. The windows have moulded architraves. At the center of the front is a round-arched doorway with a double 6-panelled door and an open pediment above. A band runs around the house at the level of the floor window sills.

The right elevation has an original ground floor bay window with marginal glazing, and the left elevation includes a marginal glazed sash window for the stairs with an arched head. The service wing has original 9 and 12-pane sash windows on the first floor, along with a horizontal sliding 16-pane sash window below to the left. There is also an open-fronted porch on the right.

The interior is not fully accessible, but the hallway contains 6-panel doors and a simple plaster cornice. The exterior of the house appears very unaltered, suggesting that internal joinery and plasterwork features are likely to have survived as well.
