Description
Church Gate consists of a pair of cottages built around the early to mid 18th century, with some 19th century additions. The cottages have rendered cob and rubble walls and feature two brick axial stacks. Each cottage has a layout of two rooms with a central axial stack that serves both rooms, along with a lobby entrance located in front of it. At the back of each house, there is a 19th century outshut.
The exterior is two storeys high with a regular four-window front, where each cottage has two windows. Cottage No. 1, on the right, has mid 20th century two-light casements and a three-light canted bay window on the ground floor to the left, along with a central 20th century plank door. Cottage No. 2, on the left, features three-light early to mid 20th century casements and a central 20th century part-glazed door.
Inside, neither cottage shows early features on the ground floor, although they may be hidden. It is possible that original roof timbers are still intact.
