Description

Petrockstowe War Memorial is made of rough-hewn granite and is situated beside the entrance to the churchyard in The Square in Petrockstowe. The memorial features a Latin cross that rises on a tapering shaft, which is set on a three-stepped square base.

Three sides of the steps display inscriptions and names in lead lettering. The main dedication on the top step reads, "IN EVER/ GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE/ FOLLOWING PARISHIONERS/ WHO DIED FOR US IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918." The two steps below list names followed by the phrase "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The other faces of the steps also feature lists of names, with the phrases "THESE SERVED" and "THESE SUFFERED HURT." Additionally, a further dedication for the Second World War has been added, which reads "WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES)."
