Description

Hallcourt is a farmhouse dating to the mid-17th century, with a 19th-century addition. It is constructed of plastered cob walls and has a gable-ended thatched roof with two brick gable-end stacks. The original plan likely comprised two rooms, possibly with a central passage, but now includes a small central room and staircase. Each room originally had an end fireplace, although it is possible that the one in the left-hand room is a later addition. A 19th-century outshut extends along the rear wall. The exterior presents a regular three-window facade featuring early 20th-century three-light casements, except for a two-light, 19th-century leaded pane casement at the centre of a slight projection with a 19th-century lean-to porch containing a plank door. Inside, the house features very heavy, deeply chamfered ceiling beams and an ovolo-moulded wooden lintel over the fireplace in the right-hand room. Roof timbers are not visible on the first floor and are unlikely to be very early. The house retains a traditional and unaltered external appearance.
