Description

Syncocks Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-17th century, with later additions from the same century. The building features mainly plastered cob and rubble walls, topped with a thatched roof that has a gable at the right end and is hipped on the left and at the front wing. There is a brick stack at the right gable end and one axial stack on the front wing. The original layout likely consisted of a two-room plan, with the right-hand room being heated. It was probably extended in the later 17th century by adding a room to the left end and a one-storey wing at the front, where the end room serves as an outbuilding, and the inner room is heated.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with two windows, featuring 20th-century two and three-light casements. A 19th-century plank door is located at the centre, sheltered by a pentice porch with a corrugated iron roof that extends to the one-storey wing on the left. This wing has a plank door on its inner face and a door and window for the outbuilding on its end wall.

The interior is not fully accessible, but one chamfered axial beam is visible in the inner room of the wing. Other beams and features, such as open fireplaces and early roof timbers, may also be present.
