Description
The Squire memorial is located about 13 meters northeast of the northeast corner of the chancel of the Church of St Nicholas in Broadwoodwidger. This Grade II listed bedstead memorial dates from the late 19th century and is signed "Miller of Lifton." It is made of slate and features iron cresting. The memorial commemorates Sophia Squire, who died in 1865. It consists of a slate inscription panel that is bolted to slate uprights, which terminate in pointed finials. Above the panel is an iron cresting adorned with arrow heads, and the panel itself has a decorated border. This type of memorial is unusual for the region.
