Description
This barn, located approximately 15 meters northeast of Halsbury Farmhouse, dates from the mid-17th century and features a mid-19th century wheelhouse along with some alterations. It is constructed from coursed slatestone rubble and has a hipped scantled slate roof, with a slate roof covering the wheelhouse. The barn has a seven-bay plan with a central threshing floor.
The entrance is marked by canted Welsh slate roofing over stone cheeks, flanking mid-19th century plank double doors set in a chamfered wood frame, with doveholes positioned above the doorway to the right. The mid-19th century wheelhouse on the left includes ventilation slits and displays a mid-17th century coat of arms. At the rear of the threshing floor, there are 17th or 18th century plank double doors also set in a chamfered wood frame.
Inside, the barn features mid-19th century king-post trusses that have been built within the principal rafters of large scantling from the 17th century. The wheelhouse to the left contains a large cross beam.
