Description

Tireh is a house that was formerly the schoolmaster's residence, built around 1860. It is constructed from local grey limestone with freestone dressings and features a bitumen-painted slate roof that is gabled at both ends, topped with crested ridge tiles. The house has three stone stacks with stone shafts, with the principal stack positioned laterally and featuring set-offs.

This Tudor-style house is designed in an L shape, with the front door located in the angle between the two blocks. It has two storeys and a façade with one window on the left and one on the right, showcasing regular stone mullioned windows. The left end of the building projects forward and is gabled, while the right block includes a gabled dormer. The front door is Tudor arched and adorned with elaborate strap hinges, situated beneath a slated porch canopy that is supported by decorated timber brackets resting on stone corbels.

The ground floor features three-light transomed stone windows with relieving arches, while the left side has a similar two-light window. The right side's first-floor window is also two-light, with a central mullion and transom in the glazing. The elevation facing the school has an appealing asymmetrical profile, including a gabled dormer on the left, a projecting stone stack with set-offs and a tall shaft, and a single-light stone window on the ground floor to the right.

Additionally, there is a grey limestone yard wall at right angles to this elevation, which includes a Tudor arched doorway. Tireh is a well-preserved example of a small Tudor-style house from the 19th century. The interior has not been inspected, but original features may still be present.
