Description

The Obelisk is a granite structure located in Conduit Square, Chudleigh, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It stands on a tall rectangular base with a moulded plinth. A later marble plaque affixed to the obelisk commemorates the provision of drinking water in 1879. It has been suggested that this obelisk, made from Haytor granite, was erected to mark the construction of London Bridge, which was built from the same stone.
