Description

This milestone, located on the north side of the A383, about 80 metres east of Chipley Mill, dates from the early to mid 19th century. It is made of limestone and has a low triangular shape with a flat top. The stone is positioned so that one point of the triangle faces the road, with the two adjacent splayed sides featuring inscriptions. The east side is carved with "FROM NEWTON 3 MILES," while the west side reads "FROM ASHBURTON 4 MILES."
