Description

This barn, located approximately 50 meters west of Nordon Farmhouse, dates back to the early 16th century and was partly rebuilt in the 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and cob, topped with a corrugated iron roof featuring gable ends. The older section of the barn, which is two storeys high, has a chamfered round-headed wooden doorway with shouldered door jambs at the right-hand end, seemingly in its original position. Inside, the ground storey has rough or obviously re-used floor beams. The roof at the older end of the building consists of two trusses with cranked collar beams and butt purlins, but lacks a ridge. One of the trusses, while the other is covered with hay, has short cruck feet that begin below the wall tops. There is slight darkening in some areas, but there is no clear evidence of smoke-blackening or indications that this barn was ever used as a domestic building.
