Description
The socket-stone of a cross is a large, roughly-shaped block of granite located about seven metres north of the church tower of St Mary the Virgin in the churchyard. This stone serves as the base for a 19th-century cross that was erected in honor of the Reverend J H Reibey in 1884. Originally, the socket-stone stood outside the churchyard gate near the conduit and was part of a cross, with a portion of the shaft now lying next to it. The top corners of the socket-stone are carved with large convex stops, although they are somewhat mutilated. It is set on a low, wide 19th-century stone plinth. The 19th-century cross itself is not included in the listing.
