Description

These are a pair of limekilns located beside the road at SX 78307152, likely built in the mid-19th century, after 1840. They are constructed of stone rubble. The left-hand kiln features a round-arched opening with a flue-hole at the back of its semi-circular domed interior. The right-hand kiln, which is heavily overgrown, is similar but has a taller, probably pointed arch, and its flue-hole is nearly buried. Each side of the interior contains a small rectangular recess. A report from 1983 indicates that the tops of their circular wells are visible, although the wells are filled with debris. These kilns are not shown on the 1840 tithe apportionment map and are situated directly opposite an unlisted bungalow named 'Catonia'.
