Description
This is a pair of adjoining limekilns, likely built in the 18th century or early 19th century. They are constructed from local limestone and some slate rubble. The limekilns are set into the bank for top loading, with the right-hand kiln possibly being a slightly later addition. The left-hand kiln features a bowed front, and both kilns have corbelled swallows, which are semi-circular openings on the inside with stoking holes at the back. The front of the kilns is overgrown with ivy. They are located on the roadside just southeast of the quarry near the head of Bow Creek. Notably, these limekilns were reportedly used again during the Second World War after being out of use for a long time.
