Description
The lime kiln, located immediately west of the Maltster's Arms Public House, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble. The front retaining wall is slightly bowed and features a string course above a large painted arch swallow opening, which has a flat stone corbel at its apex. Inside, the kiln is semi-circular and built using corbelled construction. The front wall recedes to the right, leading alongside a ramped carriageway to the road, which is at a higher level behind the kiln. The kiln is set into the ground at the back, and a lower level quay provides access to Bow Creek in front.
