Description

This building is a warehouse located immediately northeast of the Maltsters Arms Public House, likely dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble, with the right side painted. The roof is made of corrugated iron, hipped at the north front and gable-ended at the south end facing the road. The warehouse has a rectangular plan, featuring a loading doorway on the north front that faces the quay and another loading doorway on the first floor at the south end where the road is at a higher level. The internal layout has not been investigated, and it is possible that the warehouse was originally more than two storeys.

On the exterior, the north front has a doorway to the left of center that has been widened, along with a blocked window to its right, both featuring stone flat arches and a drip course above. To the right on the first floor, there is a loading doorway with a timber lintel. The west side has blocked windows on the ground floor with brick arches and a loading doorway on the first floor, along with another blocked window under the eaves to the right. The right end of this side is built against the Maltsters Arms Public House. The east side has only two small windows below the eaves. The gable end at the back (north) has steps leading up to a wide first floor loading doorway from the road, which is higher than the quay.

This attractive building is significant as the only remaining unconverted warehouse in Tuckenhay, while a similar warehouse to the east has been converted to residential use. Its location on the creekside quay adds to its importance.
