Description

Old Stoke House is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with significant remodelling occurring around 1920. It is constructed of cob with a thatched roof, featuring a large stack at the rear left and an axial stack to the left of the centre. Originally, the house had a three-room plan and likely included a cross passage between the left-hand service room – which has a rear lateral stack – the central hall with a front lateral stack, and an adjoining hall bay parlour. A further extension was added to the right in the 20th century. The exterior presents a two-storey, five-window facade, with pointed-arched, two-light casement windows with decorative leading, introduced during the 1920s remodelling. A bracketed thatch hood shelters the 20th-century front door. The interior was also remodelled around 1920, though earlier features may remain hidden beneath subsequent work or in the roof space.
