Description
5 and 6, The College are a pair of adjoining cottages, likely built in the 18th century. They are colour-washed and rendered, probably made from cob and stone rubble, and feature thatched roofs with gables at each end and brick chimney stacks. The cottages are two storeys high and have a roughly symmetrical façade with one window on the left and one on the right, with front doors located in the centre. The ground floor window on the left is a two-light casement with three panes per light, and there is a similar window on the first floor. At the time of the survey in 1986, alterations were in progress for No. 5, but its fenestration appeared to consist of two and three-light casements, each with three panes per light. The interior of No. 5 has been modernized, while the interior of No. 6 was not inspected. The row of houses known as The College is situated on a raised pavement above Fordland Brook, and Nos. 5 and 6 are part of this picturesque group.
