Description
No. 12 is a small house, likely built in the late 18th century. It features whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings and has a thatched roof with gabled ends and end stacks with brick shafts. The house is two rooms wide, with heated rooms on either side of a central stair, and narrow unheated service rooms at the rear, which are probably integral to the structure. There is a weatherboarded single-storey lean-to at the right end, which may be a later addition providing extra service rooms.
The house is two storeys tall, with a surprisingly high front elevation for a small village house, topped by a deep thatched roof. The front is symmetrical with two windows and regular fenestration, featuring a central front door under a thatched porch supported by posts. The front door has fielded panels, with the top panels glazed. The windows are 20th-century two-light casements, with two panes per light. A small area of pitched stones separates the front elevation from the pavement of High Street.
Inside, the layout remains largely intact, except for the rear left service room, which has been incorporated into the front left room. There are 20th-century grates present. No. 12 is part of a group with Nos. 16 and 18. An undated photograph shows a blocked window in the centre above the porch.
