Description
This is a mid-19th century house located on Torquay Road in Newton Abbot. The exterior features roughcast from the 20th century and has wide eaves beneath a hipped slate roof, with external moulded stacks on both sides. The house has a double-depth plan and a projecting left-hand range. It stands two storeys tall and has a three-window range. There is a continuous eaves cornice and a moulded sill band on the first floor, which contains 6/6-pane sash windows, except for the window above the door, which has 4/4 panes. The ground floor of the projecting left-hand range includes a late 19th-century canted bay with a swept metal roof, modillion cornice, and moulded pilasters at the corners, featuring full-height plate-glass windows. The front door, which has four panels, is set in the angle of the projection and is enclosed by a 20th-century conservatory. The returns and rear of the house have horizontal glazing bars on 2/2-pane sash windows. The interior was not inspected. This building is included for its group value.
