Description
The Netherton War Memorial Seat is a monument erected after the Second World War. It stands within a small garden area and is a freestanding seat, likely constructed from Portland stone. The seat has a canted, polygonal plan and displays neo-classical detailing, including mouldings to the seat back, arm rests, and ends, with a rope moulding to the front. The seat back features a recessed, central roundel inscribed "REMEMBER," with "KILLED IN ACTION" above it. Rectangular panels flank the roundel, inscribed with the names, ranks, and dates of death of the two men the seat commemorates. To the left of the seat is an octagonal granite plaque fixed to a boundary wall. This plaque bears painted black lettering that reads: “PARISHES OF COMBE-IN-TEIGNHEAD AND HACCOMBE. ROLL OF THE FALLEN OF THE TWO WORLD WARS. 1914-1918 / NAMES / 1939-1945 / NAMES.”
