Description
The Bedford Park War Memorial is a war memorial erected around 1919-1920 and designed by Inigo Triggs. It is made of Portland stone and features neo-classical detailing. The memorial takes the form of a tripartite seat with bold scrolled armrests and ends, and it is curved in plan, consisting of three segmental curves. The high back of the memorial has a frieze that includes a series of inset slate panels inscribed with the names of the Fallen; these panels were installed in 1994 to replace the original bronze ones that were stolen. The raised central section displays a plaque inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN MEMORY OF / MEN OF BEDFORD PARK / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / IN THE SERVICE OF / THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914-1918." Above this plaque is a Doric frieze and cornice.
