Description

This outbuilding, located about 10 metres north of Bickham House, is believed to have been used as a laundry and cottages. It is likely an early 19th-century remodelling of an earlier structure. The building is constructed from colourwashed rendered red sandstone and features a slate roof that is gabled at both ends, with a stack at the right end.

The building has a rectangular plan and is positioned at right angles to the service end of Bickham House. A cross passage through the centre provides access to a very large walled garden to the north. In the early 19th century, the building appears to have functioned as two cottages, one of which may have served as the gardener's cottage. There is an 18th-century window in the right gable end, although it may not be in its original position.

The exterior consists of two storeys and has an asymmetrical front with a rounded corner at the left end. It features two first-floor windows and a loading door, along with three ground-floor doors and three windows. The right-hand doorway leads into a passage that provides access to the walled garden behind. The windows are early 19th-century 16-pane sashes. The gable end of the right return includes a small 18th-century casement window with square leaded panes, and there is a loft doorway on the left return. The tall rendered walls of the walled garden behind the outbuilding are included in the listing.

Inside, the right-hand end retains a small early 19th-century chimney-piece, which contributes to the group value with Bickham House and Bickham Farmhouse.
