Description
This detached outbuilding, located in the garden of Number 4, was formerly used as a bakehouse and wash-house. It is dated 1873 on the south gable and is constructed of flint and red brick, with the west side rendered. The building features a plaintiled roof and is designed in an ornate pseudo-vernacular style.
The outbuilding is single storey. The south gable end has a small pentice-roofed lean-to above the lower part of the wall, with kidney flints in the upper section. The apex is filled with random brick, and the upper part has applied mock timbering. A lozenge-shaped window is topped with a carved stone hood-mould. The gables are adorned with fluted barge-boards and spike finials. The roof includes two small triangular louvres on the west slope and pierced ridge-tiles. A large boarded wooden louvre on the ridge features a high conical lead-covered roof. Inside, there is an internal chimney-stack with a plain red brick shaft, topped by a terracotta chimney-pot that is unusually decorated with leaf and floral motifs. The interior is divided into two areas; the principal room, which is open to the roof, was used as the wash-house and bakehouse, while the smaller area served for storage.
