Description
Thatched Cottage is a cottage associated with the stable block at Trehill, possibly built in 1833, around the same time as the stable block, or perhaps later. It has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The cottage is constructed of red sandstone and features a thatched roof with gables at both ends. It has an axial stack with a rendered shaft on the main block and a projecting end stack on the wing. The design includes modest Tudor details.
The cottage has a small L-shaped plan, with the main block facing west and consisting of two rooms wide. There is a wing at right angles to the right end. It is a single-storey building with an attic. The west elevation of the main block includes two doorways and two ground floor windows that lead to the inner return of the wing. Each gable end of the main block has a three-light window, with a small diamond-shaped attic window above. The rear wall of the wing features a four-light window with a segmental arch.
The interior has not been inspected. The cottage has group value with the stable block.
