Description
Trehill Lodge is a former lodge dating from around 1833, likely corresponding with the date of the stable block at Trehill. It is constructed of red sandstone and features a thatched roof with a plain ridge, hipped at the ends. The building is designed in the Gothick style and has a T-shaped plan, with the main room projecting at the center front and a heated service room at right angles to it.
The lodge is a single-storey structure with a symmetrical three-bay front. It has a 20th-century central front door set within an early 19th-century Tudor arched stone doorframe that includes a hoodmould. To the left, there is a 19th-century pointed arched window with timber arched glazing bars and diamond leaded panes, also featuring a hoodmould. A similar window on the right side lacks a hoodmould. The main block includes a late 20th-century two-light window at the left end and a three-light window at the right end.
Inside, the front room retains the original timber Gothick chimneypiece and features a Gothick arched door and doorframe leading to the rear service room, which contains a simpler, but likely original, chimneypiece. Trehill Lodge is an attractive example of a Gothick lodge.
